Drury Residence
Inspired by travels to Morocco, the owners of this Nedlands home decided to upgrade their outdoor space in a style that blends ethnic elements and modern design – a brief developed by landscape architect and co-director of eScape landscape architecture Nic Crowe.
The pool was finished with stone capping, selected waterline tiles and a contemporary water spouts spilling into the pool. A brushed Nocce travertine extends across much of the hardscape as a long timber bench seat links the two outdoor areas with a retractable day bed that folds away for a sleek look when not in use.
Vertical timber battens add warmth and provide a screen to the original fence line and with selected planting provide screening to enhance the views from the house and create depth to the garden.
“Placed within the fencing, a large weathering steel feature screen with cedar framing provides a focal point from the new office addition,” Mr Crowe said. “Up lit sculptural plants contrast with the steel screens and help to enhance the entertaining space and provide repeated themes in the garden.”
A secondary screening panel defines one large outdoor space into two private spaces and the client’s lanterns and unique light fittings collected on their travels all helped to reinforce the design themes in the garden and create a unique quality space for the family to enjoy.
The design successfully blended the client’s ideas, with the relaxed outdoor Australian way of life for a design that excites with different textures and an overall Moroccan feel. It seeks to transform the garden into a unique and usable range of high quality spaces for the family to enjoy.
