Plain & PoshThis kitchen was in desperate need of a makeover. (see the original space at the end) There was a truly odd peninsula that blocked the cook from access to the refrigerator behind it. The span was only 33" which made working in the area almost impossible. The peninsula was also the weekly dining area, but did not function well. This makeovers is truly one of my favoirites as it shows what good design can do for a space!

With the family dining table taking centre stage, and recessed plinth units lining the walls, the end result is a sumptuously sprawling space that effortlessly combines modern conveniences with classic design. The bluey grey adds drama and depth, whilst the warming beige lifts the room and maximises light. We added Granite ‘Ivory Wave’ worktops for a mottled finish, with Britinannium knobs and cup handles. The pewter alloy gives a smooth, clean finish to the kitchen without dispersing too much of its rural radiance.

Amazing SpacesThe new flow around the kitchen works for this busy family of five, and mom and dad always have a clear view of the family room. Natural elements are incorporated in a fresh transitional style in details such as quarter sawn white oak cabinetry with mitered cabinet doors. An abundance of creative storage makes preparation and cooking easy for mom who loves to bake. In lieu of a traditional set of table and chairs, the dining table is connected to the end of the large island, which also places it in a nice sunny spot in close proximity to the doors leading to the deck. Additional counter seating is included with complimentary furniture. The island is highlighted with a fantastic slab of natural stone, adding contrast and a little drama while perfectly complimenting the other materials in the space. Stainless steel appliances and hardware keep it modern while a pretty glass mosaic backsplash adds depth and texture.

Model RemodelThe kitchen and sunroom were closed off by walls that hindered the flow of traffic and natural light. The new layout is open, airy and features folding LaCantina doors that allow for seamless access to the patio during warmer months. Radiant heating warms the spaces during cooler months. The large kitchen island matches the impressiveness of the rest of the home, especially as your eye catches the cascading marble of the waterfall edge that extends the countertop down to the floor. Sleek Miele, Subzero and Wolf appliances, as well as a portion of butcher block counter make it a chef’s kitchen without detracting from the bright aesthetic.
