Large scale project began with the natural stone English style garden on the island with a water fountain as a central feature. The backyard was terraced to provide a more even surface for weekend sports with the children. The terracing was framed near the house with a 3 foot deep channel that will hold koi. On one side is a fire pit with amphitheater style seating and the other side opens up for the koi. There is an edible garden and butterfly garden as well. The entrance is punctuated with a large 10 foot diameter fountain. The entire landscape is on automated lighting with underwater lighting as well.

Dig Your Garden Landscape DesignA new stairway with Sonoma fieldstone walls and bluestone steps provide access from the side of the residence down to the hot tub. A variety of shade/part shade plants brighten this part of the landscape. They include dwarf Plumbago, Polygala Petite Butterflies, Dianella tasmanica variegata and Daphne odor marginata. And now with site-appropriate plants and no lawn, a lower water bill for the homewoners. Full color Blue stone and small mexican pebbles replace the lawn and pathways while offering a contemporary transformation. Bordering a large woodland, an uncultivated and unloved landscape, overgrown with nettles and brambles, was to be transformed into a multi-sensory garden. Opportunities for learning, a ‘grow your own’ lifestyle, and cross-generation social bonding underpinned our design.

This contemporary London garden scheme was designed by Simon Thomas and built by Landscaping Solutions. The design comprises horizontal timber batten screening mounted with up and down lights. There is a central fireplace which also has storage space to the rear. The paving and steps are sawn sandstone incorporating LED strip lights beneath the step treads. The raised planters are painted white and planted out with Box hedging. The rest of the planting comprises Irises, Stipa grasses and Fennel.
