The Design process for a built in wine fridge:
In this project, the client lives in a top floor penthouse apartment in London. He requested a floor to ceiling wine display, sitting between the existing window frames. A built-in wine fridge solution for multi-tenanted buildings like this is the perfect solution. Making any building alterations to fit a custom refrigeration system will require the freeholder’s permission. The decision on the design was quickly accessed for a built-in wine fridge, clad in custom luxury finishes. In addition, the high ceiling height allowed for overhead storage to be factored in. There is a display counter clad in antique mirror, luxury marble and polished brass. The overhead polished brass glass hanger holds approx 16-20 glasses.
This brass has been polished through a multi-stage buffing process that ensures the highest-grade finish. The under-counter drawer is for small item storage. There is an allocated area under the drawer for the clients refrigerated cigar humidor. This built-in wine fridge display incorporates all the features you would need for a small fit-out project. The Eurocave wine fridge can store the wine between 5-20°C. There is an area for room temperature counter top whiskey bottles illuminated with soft LED lighting. Overhead glass storage in a beautiful custom brass structure. Finally, a place to maintain the wine or champagne temperature while drinking it.

The beautiful cabinet detail creates a clean and visually pleasing symmetrical serving station. Vintage CellarsThis homeowner had extensive collections of both high end wines and bourbon. Wine and bourbon require completely different storage solutions, so naturally, two unique and completely separate rooms were created to showcase them both. The homeowners were fantastic in meeting with our team to collaborate on a bourbon room and wine cellar design that worked within their special spaces and budget.
The House itself has a rustic, yet refined and modern farmhouse feel throughout. The modern, elegant, yet vintage style look of the small wine cellar, especially, fit seamlessly with the interior design.
The Bourbon cellar is not cooled, but resides in a shaded interior section within the house as to maintain a constant temperature. Additionally, with close proximity to the Pacific Ocean, sunny Ladera Ranch, a community in Orange County, California never really sees average temperatures above 80 Degrees.
The Bourbon Room showcases a custom wrought iron door, and upon entering features a modular style show cabinet with multiple levels. Custom wine cellar doors, and custom wrought iron doors truly add that special feeling and look to your walk in wine room. A door used for a wine room would be fitted with dual pane glass as to better maintain temperature and humidity within. A room such as this could also double as craft beer storage. Beer storage, requires bottles to stand straight up as to not rust the cap, as well as compress any remaining yeast residues at the bottom of the bottle instead of mixed throughout. Craft beer as a whole has become an incredibly burgeoning industry, especially in places like San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Francisco in California, and Portland in Oregon.
The small wine cellar / wine closet / wine room is located right off the kitchen, allowing easy access for social gatherings or just to bring out that special wine with dinner. This small walk in wine cellar incorporates a custom wrought iron door as well, fitted with glass as discussed prior.
The wine room has one solid wall of individual bottle storage, leading into the showcase wall with room for case storage and more individual bottle storage above the countertop and decanting area. The homeowner also shows a rogar wine bottle opener - a rustic, yet timeless contemporary style that's here to stay in wine rooms, wine closets, and large custom wine cellars throughout the US.

Thermally Broken Steel USAThermally Broken Steel USA supplied the custom thermally broken steel wine cellar and a custom steel 90minute fire-rated entry door. Both assemblies were designed to look as though they came from the same frame collection but utilize completely different profiles due to the nature of the functionality required. The thermal break in our OS2 series steel frames keeps the wine cellar at the ideal temperature and the low iron glass makes for a perfect view of the owner's wine collection. Additionally, the custom fire rated steel entry door features the same handle and trim set as the wine cellar as well as a concealed floor mounted closer and fluted glass for privacy.

Just like our clients, we are emphatic when it comes to specifications and customization when appreciating and acquiring furniture in quality materials – especially wood. Jeff Martin Joinery uses premium grade domestic hardwoods, and takes great pride in creating well designed, engineered, and executed pieces. We will embrace your requests about grain, figure, orientation, finish type and customizable options.
Martin and his team have produced exquisite custom furniture for clientele the world over. He was classically trained under a celebrated designer in Brooklyn, New York and is quickly becoming an integral thread in the architectural fabric of North America.
We’re working with Jeff to design modern furniture sets and build high quality components with old school joinery techniques. Our product line serves anyone who appreciates the details.
We’ve branded it with an “X” to remark on the collaborative process between two influential Canadian design firms.
