Pacific Garden DesignDespite their location just outside downtown, the homeowners have an expansive backyard abutting Lake Pend Oreille. They enjoy the space, but needed a spot to gather lakeside. A patio with natural flagstone pavers is accented with sculptural boulders and seat rocks. A gas fire pit and custom shade sail create a comfortable space for chilly nights and sunny days, maximizing the homeowners' use of the space.
Dig Your Garden Landscape DesignNapa, CA residence, adjacent to a steep rock hillside. My design solutions included a contemporary redwood horizontal fence to help screen the view of the hillside along with arbors for vines that help to break up the long narrow space. I designed a triangular-shaped pergola with decorative panels from "Parasoleil" that serves as an artful focal point while providing interesting shade patterns that casts its delightful shadow along fence and patio and bench below, changing its position as the sun moves throughout the day. The landscape design includes angular planting beds, concrete pavers surrounded by gravel and a small lower-water lawn for the family to enjoy. The London Gardener LtdSmall garden in Brixton designed for young children and sophisticated enough to link in style with the new kitchen extension/remodelled house.
Artificial grass was combined with scented Lavender and Trachleospermum with year round structure from standard Olea (Olive) trees and Magnolia Grandiflora.
Cedar slats were used for the fencing to give a clean and modern line.
A lovely low maintenance garden!

Altura ArchitectsOur client has a large collection of bonsai trees and wanted an exhibition space for the extensive collection and a workshop to tend to the growing plants. Together we came up with a plan for a beautiful garden with plenty of space and a water feature. The design also included a Japanese-influenced pavilion in the middle of the garden. The pavilion is comprised of three separate rooms. The first room is features a tokonoma, a small recessed space to display art. The second, and largest room, provides an open area for display. The room can be accessed by large glass folding doors and has plenty of natural light filtering through the skylights above. The third room is a workspace with tool storage.

Cool Designs for LandscapesThe owners style is very clean and modern and they wanted the same look for the outside as they have inside. Orange and blue are the interior accents. The espalier of Cape Honeysuckle will grow tall behind the Buddah. From inside the blue tiled block contrasts well with the orange flowers of the honeysuckle. Succulents and Agaves fill the bottom. The rest of the plants are muted and calm. We transplanted fruit trees to the sunny wall.

Dig Your Garden Landscape DesignThis tired, unused San Francisco backyard was transformed into a modern, low-maintenance landscape with site-appropriate plantings enhanced by raised planting beds and a lead-free artificial lawn to replace the existing water-thirsty lawn. I created two separate "rooms" to break up the long narrow yard, and specified full range blue stone for the two small patio areas, connected by a curved pattern of rectangular pavers of the same natural stone. The raised concrete rectangular planting beds were incorporated to bring more movement and interest to the landscape along with gravel bed accents alongside. Some of the existing concrete remained, and was stained with a color to compliment the natural stone. These photos were taken over a three year period.
