The owners wanted to add space to their DC home by utilizing the existing dark, wet basement. We were able to create a light, bright space for their growing family. Behind the walls we updated the plumbing, insulation and waterproofed the basement. You can see the beautifully finished space is multi-functional with a play area, TV viewing, new spacious bath and laundry room - the perfect space for a growing family.
Copper Sky Design + Remodel
This remodeled basement encompasses true style and flares of excellence with blue cabinets and entertainment center. The space becomes the perfect place for children to play and the perfect retreat for visitors to relax and unwind. Subway tiles line the shower and the built in shelf features smaller darker tiles for a statement of interest. The kitchen features a small sink, drink refrigerator and a seamless counter to backsplash transition.
Annette Jaffe Interiors
This 4,500 sq ft basement in Long Island is high on luxe, style, and fun. It has a full gym, golf simulator, arcade room, home theater, bar, full bath, storage, and an entry mud area. The palette is tight with a wood tile pattern to define areas and keep the space integrated. We used an open floor plan but still kept each space defined. The golf simulator ceiling is deep blue to simulate the night sky. It works with the room/doors that are integrated into the paneling — on shiplap and blue. We also added lights on the shuffleboard and integrated inset gym mirrors into the shiplap. We integrated ductwork and HVAC into the columns and ceiling, a brass foot rail at the bar, and pop-up chargers and a USB in the theater and the bar. The center arm of the theater seats can be raised for cuddling. LED lights have been added to the stone at the threshold of the arcade, and the games in the arcade are turned on with a light switch.

The game room is the ideal spot for football games, card games, and cigars. The ventilation system prevents smoke from going to other areas of the house and is functional for the client's love of cigars. The new space has plenty of storage and display area, with custom open shelving, lockable drawers, and a hidden beverage cooler paneled to look balanced with the other cabinets. The monochrome navy color scheme brings a masculine feeling, while not compromising the soft textures of the rug and seating.
emily lauderback stewart design and renovation
Emily designed the layout and custom cabinetry of this space for maximum storage and function. A wall bed pulls down in the center section of the tall cabinetry, so that the space can also be used for guests. A tile floor inside of French doors from the patio and hot tub with a bench for storage and seating functions well as a transition spot from exterior to interior.
