Colorful plant combinations and groupings along a decomposed pathway in a San Anselmo garden in northern California. Phormiums, native Penstemon, Snow in Summer, Lambs Ears and other colorful plants create a beautiful low-water tapestry of plant groupings welcome you along the flagstone pathway to the home's entrance and side patios. Guadalajara, San Clemente Coastal Modern Remodel
This major remodel and addition set out to take full advantage of the incredible view and create a clear connection to both the front and rear yards. The clients really wanted a pool and a home that they could enjoy with their kids and take full advantage of the beautiful climate that Southern California has to offer. The existing front yard was completely given to the street, so privatizing the front yard with new landscaping and a low wall created an opportunity to connect the home to a private front yard. Upon entering the home a large staircase blocked the view through to the ocean so removing that space blocker opened up the view and created a large great room.
Indoor outdoor living was achieved through the usage of large sliding doors which allow that seamless connection to the patio space that overlooks a new pool and view to the ocean. A large garden is rare so a new pool and bocce ball court were integrated to encourage the outdoor active lifestyle that the clients love.
The clients love to travel and wanted display shelving and wall space to display the art they had collected all around the world. A natural material palette gives a warmth and texture to the modern design that creates a feeling that the home is lived in. Though a subtle change from the street, upon entering the front door the home opens up through the layers of space to a new lease on life with this remodel.

Family friendly landscape featuring a large, partially covered composite deck, a kid's play space with a seat wall that can also be used as a fire pit, new landscaping and a large lawn for play time. In addition, the new paver path makes trash days a breeze while the paved side yard doubles as a vegetable garden and more play space. The upper yard is landscaped with native and drought tolerant plants and the foundation features colorful perennials.

This garden was designed to celebrate panoramic views of the San Gabriel mountains. Horizontal bands of slate tile from the interior of the mid-century home wrap around the house’s perimeter and extend to the rear pool area, inviting the family outdoors. With a pool framed by mature trees, a sunken seating area, fruit trees, and a modest lawn for a young family, the landscape provides a wide range of opportunities for play, entertaining and relaxation.

Texas French Bread Garden occupies a space between the public and private - an appropriate gesture for a site that buffers a neighborhood from a local eatery. The garden consists of a seating area arranged behind layers of native plantings, low walls, and rain gardens. These devices create a space that at once opens and closes itself to views and accessibility.

This arid garden photo was taken just after the garden was installed so the plants are still small. Within a year, the shrubs in the background will hide the block perimeter wall and the neighbor's shed. An important part of landscape design is to solve visual problems. We used blue-black Mexican river rock to create the illusion of water in the permeable dry river. We call this style, our lush desert or soft desert design. The color theme is silver foliage or leaves, blue cactus, yellow flowers, blue flowers, accented by a dash of hot mango. Photo by Tina Cremer, H2 XERO Landscape.

As night falls, lighting highlights this entry structure in a Craftsman style that blends perfectly with the architecture of the home while welcoming guests to enter the property in a relaxing shaded space. Rustic materials of natural stone cladding, stained cedar wood and classic gate elements tie everything together.
