Gentlemen's Library/Home Office
Wood Built-In - Faux Burl
This built-in was crafted by the millworker out of paint-grade alder. Being this project is all for charity & donation, the millworker literally "piece-mealed" this gorgeous unit using whatever leftover materials he had lying around in his shop at the time. We did a series of glazings, sandwiched with layers of lacquers for depth to look like an old custom piece of gentlemen's quality. Adding the character of mottling and highs & lows into the finishing process effectively hid the piece-meal construction. The designer challenged us by placing an extraordinary $14,000 antique burl-topped desk in this space. We had to create a finish equally elegant & powerful in order to stand up to the quality of the other furnishings and decor in this library/home office.
