Private Residence
This Private Residence was designed by The Bazeley Partnership to replace an existing dwelling on a stunning site. The previous dwelling that once occupied the site was of a typically 1950s style and construction. Both it and the adjacent car port had little architectural merit, nor were they worthy of retention or repair. Their appearance was considered to be inappropriate within the wider context and was of detrimental appearance to the surrounding area. A condition survey of the existing dwelling established that there were fundamental constructional issues with the structure and that it was not economically viable or desirable to retain and refurbish.
Our client wished to replace these dilapidated buildings a new two storey dwelling and separate garage building. It was designed to be sympathetic to the surrounding area and was inspired by the Arts & Crafts style and work of CF Voysey.
The residence makes extensive use of traditional stonework architectural features in cut granite. The exterior walls were finished in a more roughly textured granite ashlar stone set on a black brick plinth. Within the basement of the residence, there is a wine cellar.
