Yacht Saloon furniture

Leading British furniture designer and maker, William Garvey, a recognised designer for super yacht interiors completing projects from design concept through to manufacture and installation provided the bespoke furniture for the super-yacht Avante which was completed on behalf of Struik & Hamerslag. Working closely and in association with the designers Peter Mikic & Design Unlimited, William Garvey provided a survey, working drawings and then manufactured the furniture for 7 bathrooms along with the joinery for panelling around windows in the main living quarters and air conditioning units. Speaking on behalf of William Garvey Ltd, Managing Director Bill Garvey comments, “Current superyacht design trends give interior designers much more of a blank canvas these days but there is a definite trend towards natural woods and finishes. I understand that influential visitors to the last Design Unlimited Exhibition reported that the key influences for 2018 were to come from nature, with a decisive move towards natural materials, fibres and renewable resources.” Bill added, “However, it’s important to understand that yacht interiors must be timeless as if the market tried to align itself to trends from the residential market, the particular style could have come on and gone in the time it takes to design a yacht interiors to completion. Thus, natural really works as it will always be somewhat en-vogue.” Designer, Peter Mikic adds “The approach in this project was to reconfigure the space, introduce controlled natural light and design bespoke freestanding furniture. The execution was clean, comfortable and has the feel of a spacious apartment floating on the sea.” Bespoke Furniture by WGFM Bill Garvey summarised, “When we embarked on this project, our team knew that it was critical to ensure that the teak was sourced from ethically sound and sustainable sources and we shall continue to be faithful to this ethos on any future maritime projects that we undertake. A super yacht is a lot easier to make feel like a home and be furnished as one, with concessions to the nautical setting being less severe and more subtle and the ability to use a wider range of none yacht-specific furniture and decorations. With a super yacht, therefore, there is a greater choice between whether you want to make your yacht feel more like a land based house, or go all out with making sure people don’t forget that they are on a yacht.”
