“We needed a custom fabricated staircase, railing and matching 2nd floor banister that took advantage of a corner 'deadspace' in our A-frame house, and SMW came through with smart design, flexibilty, quality workmanship, and exceptional responsiveness. Due to the steep grade of the ceiling, measurement had to be perfect to allow enough headroom, as well as allow enough steps to get to the second floor. Peter drove out to our house (nearly three hours away) to measure once, then drove out a second time to install. The accent wall that divides the living room and dining room features a 48" see-through linear fireplace. The amazing light-filled stairwell featuring two skylights, glass railings, and views of all four levels of our home. Every inch of this home is thoughtful design and there is no wasted or awkward space. The space feels and looks a lot larger than homes of similar square footage. Matt has designed the layout around our future furniture and even designed special niches for some of our pieces! During this entire home-building process, our architect/ client relationship has evolved into a great friendship. “My wife and I hired this company to redesign and remodel our kitchen, family room, master bathroom, guest bathrooms, fireplace and few other things. This was not an easy project as we purchased a house from the 1930's that had a lot of problems!!! We needed to redo all the electrical, the layout, fix the walls, add insulation, add lighting and make the area more efficient. The end result is beautiful, it is traditional with a modern flair. We are confident to say that everything they did behind the walls is up to code and goes beyond our expectations. Before we began our remodeling project when we turned on our microwave the lights would flicker. Our stove was unusable, my foot went through the floor in the master bathroom because it was rotted through and most the floors and walls were slanted. Every time they opened a wall, they said, "why did the previous builders do it this way?" There was a lot to fix! Rktects did a fantastic job at communicating the problems, coming up with solutions to fix them, creating a great plan to utilize the best space and implementing the process in an efficient way. I work from home so I was there for the entire construction project and the workers were very professional and worked hard. The whole project took a few months and the end result is beautiful. Since they have finished the job, we have not had one problem, everything works as expected and their service was truly top notch. In terms of pricing, they are not going to be the cheapest out there but when it comes to quality construction you get what you pay for. Rktects delivered an excellent service and product, we could not be more pleased. If you want a cheap job with cheap materials then this is not the company to hire. But if you want someone who does it right the first time so it can withstand Chicago weather and works how it should be, then this is the company to hire. We were very impressed with the high-end materials used, the excellent customer service and in the end the price was very fair for what we got in return. I highly suggest and if we ever move, we look forward to hire them again!”
