We had completed the "bones" of the interior but needed the 2 rooms which had previously been separated by a dividing wall to be accessorized to compliment the new open space. Amy hand-picked beautiful wool curtains with stud accents for 3 windows, a fabulous art piece for the mantel, updated rug and ottoman and side table for the fire place seating area. As requested, she created a beautiful display arrangement of my collectibles above the cabinets in the kitchen. “It is my pleasure to write a recommendation for Geri and Freespace Design. I bought a house built in 1932 but love true modern, edgy, sharp design - something not typical in a 1930s house. I went through four different designer "interviews" before meeting Geri. I was immediately impressed by her first response email - she made a point of outlining her philosophy, and emphasized the relationship and communication component (no-one else had done this). I first engaged Geri to design my kitchen. Because I wanted something completely different, I only gave her minimal guidance - a handful of magazines with marked photos, a few emails about what I like, etc. She came back with an INCREDIBLE, cutting-edge design that wildly exceeded my expectations. She accommodated many environmentally conscious components and creative materials. She also provided excellent guidance on budget trade-offs (e.g., where to spend money, where to save). I know she spent far more hours on this project than her fee - she was with us the whole way, checking in, helping explain things to contractors, etc. I then engaged her for some basic staging of the living area next to the kitchen, and the front room. Once again, even though this was a far less complex request, she created a stellar concept. We are planning on building an addition in the next year or so, and I will definitely involve Geri, hopefully to a greater extent than I did with the kitchen. She is THE modern designer with whom to work in Charlotte, in my opinion - not the diluted contemporary style, or Southern modern, but true European sharp modern. Geri, thank you for your brilliance with what I needed - and I look forward to more in the future.”

“My husband and I are near the end of an extensive kitchen and dining area renovation. There were so many decisions to make along the way. Now one final question: which backsplash goes with our bianco antico granite and cream cabinets? We made many trips to tile stores, spoke to consultants there, asked advice from family, but never found what we truly wanted. We felt that most options were too busy or would soon be outdated. Searching the web for unique ideas, I came upon Karen’s kitchen with beveled arabesque backsplash in white. It looked gorgeous and did not compete with her bianco antico granite. I ordered a sample in gray (my husband did not want white), from Mission Stone and Tile, but was unsure that the color would co-ordinate. I wrote to Karen and she was an excellent resource. She, of course, understood my quandary, my colors, and design ideas. She sent me pictures of alternate backsplash tiles that would work beautifully and links to tile stores that had some great ideas. She ultimately encouraged me that the beveled arabesque, on its own may not be a show stopper, but once it was on the wall and the beveled pattern appeared, it would be stunning. Her gentle nudge in that direction was all I needed. I have ordered the tile and await its arrival. Karen has also sent me installation pictures, tips, and caveats since this is a DIY project. Overall, I have been thrilled to have Karen Viscito's design advice for my kitchen!”
