Our initial consultation with Mark generated many great ideas and we easily came together to finalize the design decisions. The crew was on site everyday and amazingly the wall was finished on time and on budget despite terrible rain and mud. “I have had the privilege of working with Fern Ridge both as client and collaborator. I first hired Fern Ridge back in 1998 when I bought a house with extensive perennial gardens of which I knew nothing about. Sean James (Mr. Fern Ridge), came with a wealth of knowledge, wit and creative insight that make him a pleasure to work with and immediately put my mind at ease. In short order my gardens became his gardens and reached their full potential. Later when extensive renovations to the exterior came, including a new foot print for the decking, Sean designed and installed a masterful addition to the landscaping that included sight, sound, colour and texture. There was burbling water, extensive stone paths and trees and perennials which complimented and worked with the indigenous plant materials. The final work was a living, breathing, blooming work of art. Sadly I moved from this garden, but not without taking Sean along to my next place to work his magic there. As a collaborator, Sean and his team at Fern Ridge created a stunning garden in a compact back yard for a mutual client, that included water falls, hillside landscaping in a Carolinian forest and hard landscaping which created a forest oasis in the city. My part was a bronze and glass sculpture that reflected this beauty and which was complimented by Sean's careful attention to night lighting and complimentary plantings. In short, they say "you can't take it with you;" but I know, so long as Sean James and Fern Ridge Landscaping are around, I can be assured that even through moving house my garden and stunning landscaping will be reborn again wherever I go. A house is just a house until you live in it and call it home. A garden is just a garden until Sean becomes a part of it and releases its inner spirit.”
