Interpretation is a key aspect of Lisa’s design philosophy. Once she has assimilated the client’s brief, she explores three crucial criteria: structure, surroundings, and materials. Lisa believes that each building has its own personality, its own will and energy. Being ‘in tune’ with a structure’s full potential is key to realising her client’s core desires. “Architecturally a structure can be moulded and transformed into our desire, but one has also to listen with a keen sensitivity to what the materials, the site, the aspect, are asking for. “I like to design from a place of connectedness, of being rooted, of steadiness from which thoughts take wing and designs begin to fly.” Connection with mother earth is a deep vein that runs through all Lisa’s projects. “The materials chosen are different for each project, influenced by my client’s likes and dislikes and also environmental factors - the materials must be sensitive to the structure, to its surroundings and to the earth.”Lisa travels widely to access the most authentic, most innovative, and most environmentally sustainable materials for her projects. Her attention to detail, her respect for the site and materials, and her commitment to the process, gives each of Lisa’s creations a very particular authenticity.
