New home! Help!

Hello all! Small kitchen- not much width so can't add island. I am planning on changing appliances to stainless steel. House came with this black granite that I am willing to try to work with for now. The home is a cute cape cod style. I need help with color ideas?! Paint cabinets white? Would that contrast too much with the black counter? Will change out lighting and hardware as well. Any suggestions? Thank you all! Will eventually remodel the kitchen but need to work with this for a few years first. Any suggestions would be helpful!

Search "white cabinets, black countertops" in houzz photos. You will find endless examples. I think the contrast looks great.

Hi Amelia,
I would paint the cabinets white. It's not an easy task, but for the time being it will brighten up the space and do wonders for the existing wall color which I happen to like. I would also look into a working island. They make some fairly nice styles in a stainless or painted finish and many are narrow. From the photo it looks like it will work well. Many are on casters so if you need to move it out of the way for any reason it's very easy to do. You could go with a simple white or or a stainless model that will tie in your new stainless sleel appliances, Try C&B or Ikea. It will be well worth the extra counter space for 2-3 years.

I would hold off on getting new appliances unless these ones truly don't work. If you are doing a new remodel in a few years, get new appliances then. Stainless steel might not be what you want at that point to compliment the rest of your kitchen. I personally like white appliances. With the kitchen being on the smaller side, I would like to see white cabinets and white appliances - it will look less choppy in a small space. I think it can look fine with a black countertop. I would paint the walls and ceiling a soft, lighter grey to tie it together. And then I would get some kind of farm table or butcher block on high legs to put in the center of the room as extra counter space. I think it can all have a nice cottage like feel to it.

merci beaucoup de ces informations, pas de souci c'est bien normal de privilégier vos projets persos. Avec la base que vous avez faites ce ne sera pas très difficile. En tout cas merci pour ce site, je n'ai pas encore pu trop me pencher dessus mais ça a l'air top. Alix, ça rend super bien même si c'est un peu petit à l'écran. (il y a peut-être une fonction pour enregistrer l'image qui donnerait une meilleure qualité qu'une impression d'écran?) par contre je ne mettrais pas l'armoire et le banc dans ce sens car là ça va être coincé coincé. Personnellement je le mettrais en parallèle du coffrage du compteur électrique. Et je mettrais le bureau sous la fenêtre, comme ça jolie vue quand on veut s'échapper 2 minutes des tâches administratives, et pas de reflets sur l'écran! Par contre ne pas coller le bureau au mur s'il y a un radiateur pour ne pas faire chauffer l'ordi et empêcher la circulation d'air chaud. Sinon sur la dispo du reste je trouve ça pas mal, je suppose que vous aussi?! Pour la déco c'est trop petit pour se rendre compte mais la multiplication des sources d'éclairage indirectes pour le côté cocooning c'est super. Par contre je ne sais pas si c'est une bonne chose de prendre 3 fois le même modèle de lampadaire, ça va peut être faire trop figé? (mais peut-être qu'il n'y a pas trop de choix sur le logiciel?) Manque un tapis peut-être. Pour la cuisine, du coup vous optez pour ouverte sur le salon ou fermée avec une verrière? (à titre personnel je vous l'ai déjà dit, pour bruit, odeurs et masquer les casseroles qui traînent je vous conseille la 2e solution surtout que vous avez la lumière du jour dans la pièce...) Pas moyen de caser quelques étagères supplémentaires sous cette fenêtre?? Pour mettre une rangée de belle tasses ou bols par exemple? PS: pensez à la place pour vos torchons de cuisine"en cours", je n'ai pas regretté d'avoir laissé 10-15 cm entre 2 meubles pour installer un porte torchon coulissant. Ma mère a oublié, du coup ça traîne un peu partout et c'est moche (je les avais enlevés pour la photo ;-)

Bonjour Corinne, j'ai fais ma formation dans une école, donc je ne peux pas juger. Je vois des filles faire des projets sur Insta, je pense qu'il y en a des très bien comme des moins, mais il faut être assidu ne rien lâcher car on est vite débordée et remplie de projets. Souvent ces formations ne sont pas reconnues par l'état et chères. Pour ma part, j'allais en cours 3 jours / semaine et après je bossais de la maison les 4derniers, on n'a plus de vie! Je me suis permise de regarder vos planches que vous avez sur setmystyle.fr. J'ai testé par curiosité mais je ne suis pas fan car les produits proposés sont très limités, du coup tout le monde se retrouve avec les mêmes objets sur ses planches. C'est vrai que le détourage d'objet est facile comparé à photoshop mais je préfère les faire sur ce dernier il faudra apprendre un logiciel en 3D, Photoshop (je fais de la photo donc + facile pour moi), si vous êtes à l'aise parfait! Ceux - ci se sont pas toujours gratuits Évaluez le pour et le contre de ces formations, vérifiez les échanges que vous pouvez avoir avec les profs car c'est important de pouvoir le faire. Prenez le temps car après, il y aura toutes les formalités administratives françaises! Dans ma formation on était 10 filles de tout âge , et c'est sympa de voir les projets des autres sur les mêmes sujets, souvent on se retrouve avec 10 projets différents et on peut échanger sur les rendus dessins : comment tu a fais pour faire ceci ou cela? Et se prêter les fournitures par exemples les feutres promarker qu'on achète au fur et à mesure des projets. Attention au budget fournitures!N'achetez pas tout d'un coup! Voilà j'ai répondu au mieux, essayez de vous conseiller au mieux même si je l'ai fais en cursus classique. Bon courage

Rebonsoir Marie, je ne suis malheureusement pas assez expérimenté pour savoir si ça ira et donc j'aurais pris l'approche plus sûre d'aligner la couleur des carreaux avec l'anthracite de la nouvelle cuisine. Il y en a effet béton comme ici (carrelage sol anthracite effet béton ciré) Le nouvel agencement a pas mal d'impact visuel à la fois sur les volume mais aussi sur la clarté. Normalement, la cuisine devrait avoir l'air un peu plus haute du fait du contraste sombre (anthacite) / clair (mur blanc). Avec l'ajout du noir anthracite, il faudra le compenser avec un ajout de lumière genre 2 ou 3 fois ce que vous avez actuellement. Ceci mettra également en valeur l'aspect ciré du sol. Pour le choix, c'est une question de goût/d'adaptation à la pièce. La valeur sûre est il me semble un multispot orientable car vous pourrez ajuster les endroits nécessitant l'éclairage (recoin, sol, surface de travail).

Hello ! Les peintures en blanc sont faites. (Laurent a profité de la présence de mamie le WE dernier pour finir) Ci-dessous les dernières photos. Nous allons maintenant faire une grosse pause pour profiter d'Ophélie. A dans quelques mois pour la suite de la déco ! On espère avoir bouclé les garde corps pour les premiers pas de notre petite puce ;) NB: La porte d'entrée côté extérieur est bleu nuit. La dénomination exacte est : "Gris Canon SW209F".

Keep the white appliances, paint the cabinets white and make the walls a light grey.

Paint cabinets white (not easy), keep countertops. See if you can find a freestanding kitchen cart (in stainless steel or white-painted wood) that will fit. I don't even think you'd need to paint the walls! It looks nice!!

I think you have room for a small rolling island or even butcher block type. It will help create a room rather than a galley feeling.

I would definitely refinish the cabinets in white w/ ss appliances.

The cabinets are very dated. I would paint white. Make sure you use a paint made for cabinets. Lowes sells. White will be perfect with the black counters and stainless appl.

You could use a backsplash of stainless and mix with black, white and gray. Mosaic, Lowes carries one. Paint wall color is perfect.

Put a white pleated shade on window. Floors are good.

I just read all the answers you got an everyone seems to agree on white. Yet I still am sceptical about it. I would paint your cabinets in light yellow instead.

A very light taupe color (think feathers) would also work -- and you still would not have to paint the walls -- but I do like the thought of white, as you originally proposed.

You could raise the cabinets by adding some crown with a rope, and if you have the budget build an enclosure for the refrigerator which would allow you to move those top over the fridge cabs forward so you could use them better---I have seen people put a television in there too. Somehow though, it does not look very cozy, perhaps some kind of countertop table with stools or something, if that is in the budget--but I agree with the need even if it is movable, some kind of island or something to make this space more inviting. If you get a real cabinet painter it will look like a furniture grade finish.... That white and black combo is great but you can tweak it a lot by moving the colors a bit to coordinate with your preferences. If you have a huge open orange floor, not a closed in one, you might not want to use a pure white--I have seen SW Eschelon Ecru used once esp if you add crown and a rope trim and some glaze in the grooves--more people use "off whites", the cabinet color is going to be there a long time and it need not be "matchey-matchey" to the trim but if you do an overall glaze, that color would be a good base color.

I think your cabinets are okay, however I think having the floors the same wood tone as the cabinets is the problem. Stainless appliances will update the look. If you decide to paint the cabinets white they will look good with the wood floor and the dark countertop.

I agree with the first comment what no one to date has mentioned is adding a contrasting color of trim at the top such as black crown with a white rope moulding would dress this kitchen up considerably. That is if you were to paint the cabinets white and keep the black countertop. I do tend to think that the white appliances are quit ok with it. Moulding are the least expensive addition and would dress it up greatly.

Your kitchen is almost exactly like mine. We opened the wall between kitchen and small dining room. We always had room for a small table in kitchen so we took that out and made an 48" island using 2- 24" cabinets with drawers that matched our present cabinets. Then hubby made a butcher block top with overhang enough for seating for 2 stools. We sit with our backs against the wall but still enough room to be comfortable. I have never regretted making this small island. Just the right size for the room. More storage and still enough room to open the appliances.

Sorry. I should have added. Our kitchen is 11 1/2 feet wide x 13' long. I never thought that would give me room for an island but it works

We purchased a Belmont island from Crate and Barrel for our tiny kitchen and it works well for us. It now comes in three colors: black, white, and mint, all with butcher block top. We use it with wheels, but it also comes with legs. It significantly increased the storage space and there is a drop leaf that one can prop up for more counter area-very helpful for more elaborate cooking projects.

Hi there. that kitchen would look smoking hot by painting the cabinets white. Also use your appliances white while they work, that is money you can use elsewhere. Nowadays they do not last that much anyway. change to stainless as they stop working. get your fridge stainless for example and work from there.
