Paint Color for Open Space Room

Help, Houzz! I'm working on my open-space superroom. I'm getting ready to order this sectional in this dark gray color (reversed). My floors are very dark brown. I plan to buy a large carpet that is either light or similar to the one in the picture. (If anyone has suggestions for the carpet, please let me know.) The right side of the sectional will be against the wall. The left side will float. Behind the floating side (about 6 feet), will be a wall with built-in white cabinets under windows. I have to get the wall color right. I'm thinking of something in the grays (maybe SW). Because there will be little else in the room besides the sectional, I don't want the walls to wash out. I need for them to be "present" to frame the sectional. Suggestions, please! I'm also looking for window coverings. The back of the house opens to someone else's house back.

Are you looking for comprehensive, "soup to nuts" guidance, or do you consider yourself design-savvy and only in need of assistance with color, space planning and resources? Are you a visual person or a tactile person? Will you be satisfied with a designer showing you photos of products, or do you prefer to see and feel everything before deciding whether it is right for you? Do you prefer to be shown many options or fewer? Are you open to the input of others? Are you able to make choices with confidence, or do you tend to vacillate? What are your expectations in terms of a timeline Determine the Scope of Your Project The scope of a project to some extent dictates the qualifications and experience required of the interior designer you are hiring. If you are building a new home or addition, or undertaking a major renovation to existing space, you are likely already working with an architect. This is good. Architects and designers often work in concert, balancing the aesthetics of the home's structure, or "bones," with the interior furnishings and finishes. You may want to get your architect involved in the selection of the interior designer—whether it's recommending someone he or she has already worked with, or using one of the interior designers the firm may have on staff. If you're redecorating a single room or have a limited budget for a space that does not require structural change, you may not need an interior designer at all. You may be happy hiring a specialist, such as a color consultant, who can work with your existing furnishings and help you revamp the space with new paint color and fabric selections.... Commentaires (4)Bonjour! J'ai déjà fait une publication à ce sujet récemment, mais je voulais apporter quelques précisions. Je désire installer un dosseret de céramique dans ma cuisine. Tout d'abord, je vais enlever la bande de céramique foncée existante puisque je la trouve trop foncée et trop chargée. Il y a une rampe DEL sous mes armoires. Enfin, la cuisine, la salle à manger et le salon sont à aire ouverte et les couleurs sont neutres (blanc, gris, beige, brun, noir). Dans les photos, vous verrez aussi les chaises et la table que je vais avoir. Sur la dernière photo, vous verrez un espace vide entre la cuisine et la salle à manger. Je ne suis pas encore sûr de ce que je ferai de cet endroit. Je n'y mettrai pas de meubles, mais je pensais à y mettre des cadres ou un tableau noir. Merci!... Commentaires (10)Hello Catherine, It seems like a different solution is somewhat blocked by 1) the size/shape of the room, 2) the door and window positions as well as 3) the type and size of the furniture... (sorry I know this is obvious). Something has to give... Could you give the exact room size and confirmation of doors or passages? (door to the right? arched passage to the left of the piano?) Is the furniture that you have included actual or new? What are their footprints? How is the bay window done? full height floor to ceiling? starts at bench height? How is the window exposed? East, West, North or South? How high is the fireplace and is it's angled wall also full height? Most upright pianos are around 1m30 (or à little more than 4 feet). Putting a TV above it can be an option, but perhaps a little uncomfortable, not to add that visually it will be an odd addition unless you take the "fake painting" version (ex Samsung "The Frame"). thanks in advance, Lynn... il y a 8 ansThanks, Nancy! I tried to make a picture of the space, and I think I have the proportions right. There are windows above the white cabinets at the back of the "super room." On the right side of the room behind the plant are French doors going to a small patio. (The master suite is not extended as shown in the diagram.) Above the server in the dining room there's also a window. I really appreciate your help!

il y a 8 ansYou nailed it! I just get scared when people put furniture on floor plans and they are not the same scale. I tweeked it a little bit in that I think you need more furniture. I would get one chair to match your sofa and then maybe two accent chairs with a little table in between. Otherwise all the furniture would be on one side. Also would go with a round coffee table instead of square.
So back to original question. Do you have any other colors in mind. I don't think a gray wall with gray sofa will get the look you are going for.

il y a 8 ansI since you have some sort of console planned for the living room, I would consider not having one in the dining room and go for a larger table. I would not do blinds -go for a contemporary shade instead.

il y a 8 ansMore contemporary - everybody has the 2" blinds-kinda cheesy looking to me. There are all kinds. You can get them so light still filters in and the other side blocks out neighbor's view. I like the zebra shade and you can also get the kind that can go up and down. There's just so many options now besides blinds.
