No entry... Please help

I'm trying to figure out how to arrange furniture in this room. There is no entry, just that ugly railing. I don't feel like the sectional works in the corner, it looks scrunched in there, and it is too far off-center from the TV, which is centered on the wall. This is a rental, so we can't change anything big, but I could probably remove the railing and replace it with a console or similar piece of furniture. We also plan to replace the current sofa with either another sectional or sofa/chair. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I think the sectional is in the exact right place. If you flip the sectional, there is no place for the TV.

Move the console with the TV so that it is directly across from the main part of the sofa. If you are sitting on the sofa, move the console to the left. It's ok if it goes under the window a bit.

Put a sofa table or other small table behind the sofa in the railing area as a landing for keys and purses.

Your favorite art above the small side of the sofa.

Nice place. Have fun making yourself at home.

try taking the corner out of the sectional, and make it a sofa with the two pieces instead, then put that across from the tv, to see how you like it. maybe the corner piece can go under the window for now.

this will help you pick new furniture too.

another idea, corner the tv on the door window wall, and turn the sofa to face the windows?

how long is the wall space that the railing is on?

ouf pour le plaid, les meubles TV peuvent se démonter, en principe, il suffit de boucher les trous avant de partir :) c'est celui-ci ? trouvé sur le site http://deavita.fr/design-interieur/salon-salle-sejour/meuble-salon-design-blanc/ il faut leur demander qui vend ce mobilier j'ai trouvé celui-ci aussi sur http://www.trefle.com/a-vendre/mobilier-meuble-occasion/etagere-et-ensemble-mural-city-ensemble-tv-design-blanc-roug_87973815-loc-france-saint-martin-boulogne_62758.html et pour le reste qu'en pensez-vous, étagères à cadres, tapis , lampe, coussins ce sont des articles que vous pourrez emmenez par la suite... Et pouvez-vous changez vos meubles de place ?

Bonjour à tous, J'aimerais avoir des conseils pour transformer cet ancien appartement en suite parentale. Please HELP HELP !!! Cet appartement est doté de 2 portes qui donnent sur un petit balcon au SUD et deux fenêtres à l'EST. 1ère difficulté : la cheminée en état de fonction (qu'on garde) 2e difficulté : plomberie de l'ancienne salle de bain vers le milieu (mur gauche) de la pièce J'aimerais avoir - un dressing, - salle de bain avec douche, WC et double vasque, baignoire (option) - coin bureau avec rangement des dossiers - notre lit, 2,15x2,15m + 2 tables de chevet de 45cm (chacune) J'ai commencé à travailler sur un croquis "IDEAL" mais dans cas, il faut créer des nouvelles arrivées pour la plomberie... et j'ai peur que les travaux soient trop coûteux donc j'aimerais que vous me proposeriez vos idées pour installer la salle de bain à l'ancienne place ou vers le mur commun avec la cuisine. (le nombre des fenêtres=il y a que 2 en réalité). MERCI BEAUCOUP pour toutes vos conseils, idées et suggestions.

Bonsoir Lynn, la communauté Houzz Désolé de ma réponse tardive. @Lynn : Merci de vous être rappelée de moi, quel suivi ! :) Je n'ai pas encore demandé les TMA car j'attendais le plan final (indice M). Le promoteur a pris du retard dans le projet. Comme vous l'aurez constaté, quelques modifs ont été apportées : mur porteur dans l'espace nuit, gaine technique déplacée, plus de soffite. Avec ces nouveaux paramètres, je sollicite la communauté Houzz pour m'aider à réagencer cet appartement dans la mesure du possible technique. afin de le rendre plus ergonomique et facile à vivre. Je rappelle mes souhaits : cuisine ouverte ou semi ouverte, optimisation de l'espace de la chambre 3 contraint par le mur porteur, est-ce possible de mettre la SdB dans l'espace nuit en supprimant la SdE ?, optimisation entrée, ajout de placard dans les différentes pièces... L'appartement est dans un coin sympa (au milieu d'un parc en face d'un canal sans vis-a-vis) mais je souhaite revoir son agencement. Je compte sur votre expertise à tous pour m'éclairer de vos idées et vous en remercie d'avance. Grégory

Je peindrais avec un gris très clair les murs de la cuisine. J'imaginerais de la briquette de la télé à l'arrière du conduit du poele (à la place du rouge). A la place du mur jaune une couleur très pâle (blanc cassé / beige très très clair). Les petits plus (selon budget) Je reverrais l'entrée et l'organisation de la cuisine. Je mettrai une verrière (garder un peu de lumière et renforcer l'esprit industriel que vous souhaitez) : Je trouve la table de la cuisine inutile car tellement près de la table de la salle à manger. Je garderai le plateau mais y glisserais les rangement dessous Ainsi vous aurez une vraie entrée délimitée + une vraie cuisine avec rangements supplémentaires et plan de travail conservé. J'opterais pour un nouveau meuble TV (avec rangements également). Je changerais le tapis gris foncé devant le canapé par un tapis "ficelle". Reste à savoir si vous aimeriez séparer la zone bureaux de la zone salon. Cet espace pourrait aussi avoir un peu de couleur sur les murs : reprise blanc cassé / beige très clair avec quelques étagères, tableaux déco accrochés. Voilà quelques idées...

Agree that TV should be where you need to view it, not centered on an arbitrary space.

Railing is awful -- do you really think you can remove it? If not, maybe hanging a table runner over it and putting in a console table will be good enough.

If you can remove the railing, that would be ideal. Also, I'd suggest getting a sofa that's not a sectional and scootching it over so it's across from the TV to avoid looking to cramped in that corner.

Yes, the railing will go. It seems like most people think the TV should move down the wall so we'll try that. Do you think a sectional the best shape for this space? Thanks for the help!

again take the corner piece out of the sofa, and put it together and try it in front of the tv. NO a section is not good for this space.

I would like to know how long you will be in this rental. Is it long term or just a transitional period.

Investing your money in a home which isn't yours is a waste.

I don't know how long we'll be here, but it isn't a transition. We're dealing with the ridiculous Bay Area housing market, so unless something happens and prices begin to go down we will be renting.

Ok, I tried separating the sectional to test out a normal sofa scooted away from the wall a bit, and it still just felt wrong. I really don't like having my back to the entry/door like that, and the room was obviously not designed that way. So my options are:
1. New sofa/chair combo against long wall, and use the room as a living room only, with the TV somewhere else all together.
2. New seating facing windows with, possibly, a long, low console and the TV mounted on the wall next to the window (or a corner tv stand, but I'm not a big fan). My preference would be to keep the TV there, but not if I can't make the room work in a pleasant way. Any opinions?

The railing really ruins the whole place so if you could
remove it then do so. You could also place your tv a bit under the winder to
hide the railings.

Have you thought about putting the dining area there? It's a nice little nook and looks like it might fit your table nicely. Then you have all that space where the table is now to play with.

my vote is the TV in the bigger corner between the front door and window. Don't take the sectional apart. The sectional would then fit perfectly on the longer wall, great for tv viewing and your back would not be to the entry. A swivel chair could be added in front of the entry railing and/or at the corner of the couch in front of the window which would make either/both positions great for conversation and watching tv. Don't spend money you don't need to, particularly if it is not your property. Some landlords require that the rental look the same the day you move out as the day you move in. Taking out the rail may cost you twice
