Help with Windows and Front Door needed
Our home is a 26 year old timber frame built property and I am struggling with decisions regarding windows and a front door.
Sadly we decided to go for UPVC, partly budget partly because we will not recoup the costs when we would decide to sell in the future choosing a more costly option. I made a decision to have charcoal grey on the outside and white on the inside but this leaves me with questions such as what colour should the front door and the garage be?.
Also I would like the windows to be a bit more detailed rather than just plane panes, what do you think? does this stupid? I was thinking a modern large scale grid leaded panes maybe ?
I am also having difficulties imagining a suitable front door, I am keen on making the entry a bit more symmetrical so I wondered whether a 3 panel door with some pretty stained glass uppers would look out of place or two long windows either side of a solid door?

il y a 7 ansHello Monica! How are you? Any news on the kitchen? Are you painting the Windows yourselves? If so I might just test one, I think the panes will look nice as they are. Garage door I'd do in the charcoal. Front door I might look at a grass green, alternatively an aubergine might be nice (look at adventurer 7 or purple brown by Little Greene). I like the idea of making it symmetrical :) like the long window idea but not so sure on the stained glass, were you thinking a modern or traditional design though?

Can you paint cement and ceramic tile?
Commentaires (2)Hi Pamela, Yes you can but note that it won't last forever because it is paint after all. However when you apply it the correct way, it can last for a few years. You could use Homax Tough Tile Tub & Sink Refinishing Kit (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Homax-Tough-as-Tile-One-Part-Brush-On-White-2106/202061380#) , which you can find at Home Depot for about $35 or so. I used it for the bath tub and tiles in the bathroom and love how it came out. Let's say that it is the next best solution if you want to change the look of your tiles on a budget. Just be aware that it is very toxic so you may want to wear gloves and a mask because the epoxy gives off some really nasty fumes. I’d even say, best to open the windows if possible. Having the right basics to work off are crucial so make sure to first and foremost clean your tile with the solution that is in the kit. Once the tiles are clean you can apply the epoxy paint with the brush that is in the kit. Don’t worry about the brush strokes, as they will even out eventually. You will need to apply more than one coat but make sure the first one is dry before applying the second one. It takes a few hours for the first one to dry. Two coats were sufficient to cover my tile and provide a great looking finish but if you want to apply more (depending on the tiles’ existing color) you can. Note that you can also paint the grout in between. On the box it says that it is completely dry after a few days but I’d say one week to be safe. Commentaires (0)I have a very well built set of furniture my Father made - so for the emotional reasons I will not give it up. Then comes the BUT - it is pale and made out of solid birch with absolutely beautiful flaming, swirling type of wood - and I love dark almost black, black and some grey for my furniture. I like silver over gold, latter of which I will not accept. It is crime to paint wood - generally speaking especially when it is beautiful - and so I will not do. The set of furniture includes a bit over 3 m long very near ceiling height book selves with center area designed for the TV and a stereo.. electronics. It has its own lights. There is section with led-glass and other with wood doors - some open shelves. Down there is a bit larger base with drawers. Then there exists an additional extension which can also be set else where in a room. There is 1 sqm large a coffee table high enough to work as a laptop table with structural design and a hidden base compartment for a home safe (how ever not good for permanent work table - no way). I designed the table top for it and made it when I was a teen. The design includes glass cover. In addition I have a nicely sized, bit larger than usually lamp table with 3 drawers. I designed the legs for that - so they are not common type while still simple. They are more narrow at the ends than at the top. They have silver handles and traditional framed centers for the doors. The pale birch of the doors in this particular object found online is exactly what my birch is like - tone included... I like the black legs on that. I do like Art Deco - but something about this object just does not work. I need more options and ideas. This might be just the first and most important piece of furniture to get because... I prefer much more things like these.. Please help me to find that small, but not too small a piece that can unite well enough dark and the existing pale birch. Thank you.... I'm not trying to criticize, the space seems new, with quality materials and well-lit, but have you also noticed the other big white walls? and ceiling? Why just the wall with the mirror? You've got a majority of white, a good dose of black, some chrome / stainless steel details and an uninterrupted shiny pale wood floor. It's relatively astonishing that you have a white door and only one white window, but the other window is black? Everything is relativement anonymous, nice, but nothing too ground-breaking. Is this a rental or your own home? Are you sure that just some art on that one wall will make it cozy and beautiful? Have you thought about any window treatments? Store venetien? Rideaux? Store bateaux? Any type of rug under the dining table? A rug called Bolon, made of woven vinyl fibers, easily cleaned ant anti-allergy. Is the mirror not on the axis of the table on purpose? And why a dark wood? It adds to the "window types", a black one, a white one and the wooden mirror one... Some more information would be helpful. good luck, Lynn... Voir plusMonica

So as you can imagine I have been scouring the world web for doors and I am torn and keep going backwards and forwards to what I would like. The hallway is quite dark and I am wondering if we should go with glazed panels as they would allow far more light in and make the hallway brighter (willing to sacrifice the wreath LOOK at Christmas )
Do you think something like this would suit?? painted of course not in the oak finish..

il y a 7 ansDernière modification :il y a 7 ansMini you are right, by having full panels either side I am actually gaining more glass than I currently have so we should be the same at least, the three glazed panels looks a bit meh so not even for debate anymore.
We have decided that we will have a door from Cerberus maintenance free and very secure, a Georgian design like this example below
However, I am not so keen on the flat looking sand blasted glass on the panels, it all looks a bit flat to me.
One idea would be to have the glass panels clear and apply a decorative frosted film myself ( I could change this as my mood takes me, I have an electronic cutting machine that cuts fretwork like patterns into film).
Or and my preference, would be to go for something a bit more detailed with a leaded design. Similar to this lots of obscure, textured and jewelled glass in a leaded design.
Then the question of the colour still remains LOL What do you guys think?

Hi Minnie, The windows are just like those on this house and brick colour is a good match. The door I can have in any RAL colour I choose, and this coupled with their security features, fuss free maintenance is what made me lean towards this company. I think the problem I have is that most examples are with quite thin panels either side, where ours will be a bit wider, we have a width of 2.44m, the door is 950 ( we can't have wider as it will exceed the opening clearance we have in the existing porch).
They have lots of styles and totally customisable,

I think I know what you mean about the horizontal bars, especially as they would have to work with the panels in the doors and I can't really see how that would work.
I am still fighting with the idea of plain glass though, not sure how I could get to see some modern clear glass leaded panels?? I have this strong gut feeling that adding a bit of detail to the panels will make the whole entrance feel nicer.
Colour wise I think would rather have a little contrast especially as we have the garage door as well, but I'm not feeling the stronger colours.
I am considering light blue from farrow and ball, too safe????

il y a 7 ansLol! What about the sidelights pictured below? They seem to be of a comparative size? I do really like the light blue but wonder if it's a little too muted against the charcoal? What about green smoke shown in both the pics below?
