The fishpond is one of the family’s favorite design features. It was designed as a reflecting pool, and Carswell says she finds it both “mesmerizing and fun” to sit and watch the fish swim. Carswell also likes the ongoing education factor of the pond. She had a lot to learn about how to build it, including how deep it needs to be — 2½ feet — so that the fish would be able to survive a New England winter.
