In this Victorian home on Capitol Hill, the interior had been gut renovated by a developer to match a modern farmhouse aesthetic which did not reflect our client. Our scope included a complete overhaul of the primary bathroom and powder room, a heavy kitchen refresh, along with new hardware, doors, paint, lighting, furnishings and window treatments throughout the home. Our goal was to also elevate the home’s architectural details, including a new stair rail, back to what could have been original millwork while creating a feminine, sophisticated space for a family of 5 (plus one adorable furry friend).

Mid-Century Modern Kitchen that transcends decades of modernism from 1950's to 21st Century. Combine an "L" shaped kitchen with a bar pass through to the dining room

We started the design process by selecting inspiration colors from Dunn Edwards paints. We chose Rainer White, Dark Lagoon and Mesa Tan colors inspired by a fabric swatch that the client wanted to use somewhere in their home. After the general design and space planning of the kitchen was complete, the clients were shown many colored, 3D renderings to show how it would look before settling on the Dark Lagoon upper cabinets, tall cabinets and pantry. For the island and base cabinets, we chose Alder wood with a stain color that complemented the inspiration color of Mesa Tan. Walls throughout the house were painted Rainer White.

V6B Kitchens - Fine Cabinetry - Design
Playing with color is one of our favourite thing to do. To complete the transformation, V6B's team paid attention to every detail.
The centerpiece of this luxurious kitchen is the stunning Dekton Natura Gloss backsplash, a masterpiece in itself. Its glossy surface reflects light effortlessly, creating an ethereal ambiance that enchants all who enter. The backsplash's subtle veining adds depth and character, elevating the visual appeal to new heights. As your eyes wander, they are met with the double waterfall countertops, a true testament to the artistry of design. These flawless surfaces cascade gracefully, seamlessly blending form and function.
Gleaming brass accent details accentuate the exquisite aesthetics of this luxury kitchen. From handles and fixtures to statement lighting, these shiny brass elements add a touch of regal allure. Their warm, lustrous tones harmonize effortlessly with the turquoise backdrop, creating a captivating interplay of colors.

The brief for this unique kitchen was for it to be ‘a huge piece of furniture’. Well….. challenge accepted. To achieve this goal, we knew that we needed to approach the design from the details outwards, so we started with the cabinet doors. As the kitchen was to be over three levels rather than the traditional two, and because we wanted to articulate the idea of ‘furniture’ rather than ‘kitchen cabinets’, we designed three complimentary cabinet doors, each with their own personalities.
Door pulls and pan hooks were made from beautiful hexagonal brass rods, and drawers were lined for cutlery, utensils and cookware. A slim shelf above the splashback provided a place for kitchen essentials like salt and oil. The mid-level of the kitchen was kept clean and uncluttered by means of our signature F+B ‘School House’ off-white lacquer, so that the wood didn’t feel overpowering.
But the main event is the truss shelf that spans the open side of the kitchen like a portal frame. This beautifully detailed piece of Japanese-inspired design gives space for the client’s collection of Asian ceramics, and for our bespoke Japanese shoji paper lanterns, which light the space.
A unique kitchen, handmade like only a furniture maker could.

Whats not to like about reclaimed wood hanging shelves for that extra decor space you've always wanted. Not to mention the beautiful crisp white cabinetry to match the rest of the kitchen with the added bonus of storage.

Painted white, knotty alder distressed kitchen cabinets with a dark stained wood island for contrast. The counter tops are a group 5 granite to get a more unique pattern and the backsplash is a dark glass custom sheet. The floors are travertine that flows from indoor to the custom outdoor bar out back. The pantry door is a barn door that is stain matched to blend with the island. Beautiful "Traditional" kitchen design. Enjoy!

Castle Building & Remodeling
Another beautiful Bungalow kitchen remodel in the Northrop neighborhood of South Minneapolis. These homeowners contacted Castle planning for a whole kitchen renovation, which included opening the existing kitchen into the dining room so the family could enjoy a more multi-purpose space.
The original (1927) built-in buffet cabinet between the kitchen and dining was re-homed to a vintage salvage room in Minneapolis for a new future life.
The homeowners did not want a boring kitchen. We also focused on matching the original style/feel of the home but rejuvenated. A fresh traditional kitchen design was planned to provide better function for the family’s needs and also a beautiful style to the heart of their home.
New hardwood floors carry into the kitchen to match the existing hardwoods. New custom-built flush-inset cabinetry was designed with a wonderful two-tone color scheme. The new cabinetry includes custom storage, glass uppers and accessories; silverware tray divides, trash pull-out, outlet docking drawer for phones to charge, custom shelf roll-outs and lazy susan corners.
Castle selected historic paint colors by Benjamin Moore to keep within the period of the home. The base cabinets are painted in Benjamin Moore, Tarrytown green and the uppers in a soft white (BM, Ballet white). By doing two cabinetry colors, Castle was able to create some unique interest and anchor the base cabinet to the floor while still having light walls with the white cabinetry.
New marble patterned Cambria Quartz countertops were selected in the luxurious and classic Torquay design. To complete the walls, traditional white subway tile was installed.
Along with the beautiful finishes, we also improved light quality in the space. New windows were installed increasing from 2 windows to 3 windows with an additional window to the backyard. We also installed 2 Solatubes for additional natural lighting. The Solatubes also include a solar-powered night light and additional light kit for night time use.
Overall, the new traditional kitchen is much like a spring day – light, airy and inviting!
Come see the space on Castle’s Educational Home Tour, Fall 2018!

Amy Pearson Design
Relocating to Portland, Oregon from California, this young family immediately hired Amy to redesign their newly purchased home to better fit their needs. The project included updating the kitchen, hall bath, and adding an en suite to their master bedroom. Removing a wall between the kitchen and dining allowed for additional counter space and storage along with improved traffic flow and increased natural light to the heart of the home. This galley style kitchen is focused on efficiency and functionality through custom cabinets with a pantry boasting drawer storage topped with quartz slab for durability, pull-out storage accessories throughout, deep drawers, and a quartz topped coffee bar/ buffet facing the dining area. The master bath and hall bath were born out of a single bath and a closet. While modest in size, the bathrooms are filled with functionality and colorful design elements. Durable hex shaped porcelain tiles compliment the blue vanities topped with white quartz countertops. The shower and tub are both tiled in handmade ceramic tiles, bringing much needed texture and movement of light to the space. The hall bath is outfitted with a toe-kick pull-out step for the family’s youngest member!
