This stunning front and backyard project was so much fun! The plethora of K&D's scope of work included: smooth finished concrete walls, multiple styles of horizontal redwood fencing, smooth finished concrete stepping stones, bands, steps & pathways, paver patio & driveway, artificial turf, TimberTech stairs & decks, TimberTech custom bench with storage, shower wall with bike washing station, custom concrete fountain, poured-in-place fire pit, pour-in-place half circle bench with sloped back rest, metal pergola, low voltage lighting, planting and irrigation! (*Adorable cat not included)
Fresh Home & Garden ServicesThe clients wanted to utilise this unused area of their backyard for a productive vegetable garden.
We had previously prepared this area as part of a retaining wall project and so had installed access to tap into storm water drainage.
The clients also wanted the Veggie Patch fully irrigated so we laid PVC pipe from the site of a future rain water tank and pump with irrigation pipe to connect to the Vegetable Garden and also other lines into the pop-up lawn irrigation before the area was paved for their boat.
Since lawn and sprayer irrigation are the first things to be cut under water restrictions we wanted to future proof their vegetable garden and lawn by utilising the future rain water tank.
As this will be a kitchen garden we paved the access rather than using crushed granite so that in those kitchen emergencies clean shoes and feet would be going back into the house.
The client also owns two very mischievous Boxer dogs so protecting the the vegetable garden was a must. The client wanted us to refurbish some old green steel pool fencing and gate. So we primed, painted the fence panels, gate and posts and worked around the lengths to get the desired result.
Treated pine sleepers 200 x 75 mm were used to build the 600 mm high raised vegetable garden beds.
100 mm Socked slotted Agi line was used for drainage with 3 lines run to ensure no complaints from the neighbours.
The drainage line was connected to the stormwater drainage system and 20 mm blue metal aggregate was used for drainage.
The Vegetable garden beds were filled with a combination of the client's composted materials and Mushroom Compost.
This was mulched with Sugar Cane Mulch.

Dig Your Garden Landscape DesignAPLD 2022 Award Winning Landscape Design. We designed and installed this dramatic living wall / vertical garden to add a welcoming focal point, and a great way to add living beauty to the large front house wall. The wall includes a variety of succulents, grass-like and cascading plants some with flowers, (some with flowers, Oxalis, Heuchera designed to provide long cascading "waves" with appealing textures and colors. The dated walkway was updated with large geometric concrete pavers with polished black pebbles in between, and a new concrete driveway. Water-wise grasses flowering plants and succulents replace the lawn. This updated modern renovation for this mid-century modern home includes a new garage and front entrance door and modern garden light fixtures. Northwest Native Landscapes LLCThis compact, urban backyard was in desperate need of privacy. We created a series of outdoor rooms, privacy screens, and lush plantings all with an Asian-inspired design sense. Elements include a covered outdoor lounge room, sun decks, rock gardens, shade garden, evergreen plant screens, and raised boardwalk to connect the various outdoor spaces. The finished space feels like a true backyard oasis.
Sweet Smiling LandscapesThis beautiful property is located in the hills above of Montecito with 360 degree of views onto the Channel Islands and the surrounding mountains. Inspired by the Japanese landscape design principal of the borrowed landscape the gardens on this property serves as a kind of picture frame from which to view the natural beauty of its surroundings.
This 15-year-old costume-built home was crafted with all the style and workmanship ship found in Villa or Château in the Mediterranean. Unfortunately, the garden design was not as well thought out as the house was. Most of this property receives baking sun, drying winds and is in an extremely high fire danger area. Do to these factors many of the plants on the property were unsuitable for their location. The original planting scheme was also lifeless and colorless. Poor landscape maintenance had left many of the plants on the property sick and dying.
We came in to revive this landscape, breathing new life into it.
Creating a drought tolerant and fire wise landscape was of utmost importance to these clients. Staying true to the more formal landscape styles found in Southern Europe we also want to create an opportunity to design seamlessly blend with its natural surroundings. We did that by incorporating a lot of California native plants. This vast property also contains an avocado orchard and a vineyard. By adding California native plants the property is inviting in native birds and insects that help keep pollinate the orchard and vineyard and keep pest problems at bay. Because these clients enjoy harvesting from their land we added elements of edible landscaping to this project. We filled pottery and planter beds with fruit trees, culinary and medicinal herbs as well as flowers that can be used in cut flower arrangements. Lastly, we went through carefully pruning diseased plants, treating pest problems an improving the soil. Now the landscape is not only more beautiful it is more protected against fire, is more water wise and integrate into its surrounds with a wholistic approach.
