In this after picture you can see the new shiplap wall surrounding the refaced fireplace. The floors were refinished in a darker color and the walls were painted "Apricot Ice" by Benjamin Moore to add a subtle warm glow.
This room has been described by my husband as "upscale cabin".

Remodeling the fireplace and adding all new furnishings and finishes brought this formal loving room into the 21st century. We repositioned the home owner's art collection to complement the space.
The Iconic Space
The owners wished to make better use of their formal living room, so we set out make guests move on past the comfortable kitchen. For this to happen, the living room had to feel just as relaxed. For example, it had to be easy to set down a drink from every seat in the room. We traded all-white upholstery for colors and textures which would feel less intimidating to a guest who might be eating or drinking. We phased the changes by moving existing furniture, and then buying new pieces.
I’m happy to report that this comfortable, formal living room now is in regular use.

The bright orange living room walls are softened and balanced by creamy off-whites. A contemporary chandelier brings attention to the coffered ceiling, which has gilded wall covering in each panel. The room is designed for conversations.

This after picture of the living room showcases a working newly re-faced fireplace using local river stone. The walls are rough side out stained ship lap. We used lots of ethnic accessories in pillows, valences, ottomans and rugs to lend a casual and comfy feeling to this cozy room.

A grand home on Philadelphia's Main Line receives a freshening up when clients buy an old home and bring in their previous traditional furnishings but add lots of new contemporary and colorful furnishings to bring the house up to date. Colorful walls left by the previous owner are toned down with two brown velvet sofas and then energized with aqua velvet furnishings. Jay Greene photography
