Phase One Design
Call it what you want: a man cave, kid corner, or a party room, a basement is always a space in a home where the imagination can take liberties. Phase One accentuated the clients' wishes for an industrial lower level complete with sealed flooring, a full kitchen and bathroom and plenty of open area to let loose.

A single piece of textured artwork above a sleek white cabinet showcases the villa’s minimalist aesthetic. The design features are intentionally understated, allowing the art to make a statement and reflect the homeowner's personal style within a clean and tranquil environment.

The details of this integrated design utilized wood, stone, steel, and glass together seamlessly in this modern basement remodel. The natural walnut paneling provides warmth against the stone walls and cement floor. The communal walnut table centers the room and is a short walk out of the garage style patio door for some fresh air. An entertainers dream was designed and carried out in this beautiful lower level retreat.

This family of five lived in a 900sf 2 bedroom home that had a not quite tall enough basement. With one son just entering his teen years it was time to expand. Our design for the basement gained them 2 bedrooms, a second bath, a family room, and a soundproof music room. We demo’d the deck off the kitchen and replaced it with a compact 2-story addition. Upstairs is a light-filled breakfast room and below it one of the 2 new bedrooms. An interior stair now connects the upstairs to the basement with a door opening at a mid landingto access the backyard. The wall between the kitchen and the living room was removed. From the front door you are now greeted by a long view, through living room, kitchen and breakfast room of the beautiful oak in the backyard which was carefully tended through construction.

150 year old 1500 sq ft bare-bones basement gets complete makeover - perimeter french drains, lowered floor for increased headroom, new staircase, hand-hewn posts and beams. Integrated powder room, wet bar, study, game room and living room areas

This fun, funky basement space was renovated with both kids and adults in mind. A large sectional is the perfect place to watch the game and another game - at the same time! Thanks to two flat screen TVs, this family can please everyone in the room. A kids space for a ping pong table and drum set sits behind the TV viewing space and a wet bar for drinks and snacks serves everyone. Concrete floors were painted and rugs were used to warm up the space. Surround sound systems were installed into the ceiling and walls for a seamless look. This is the perfect space for entertaining guests of any age.

It is rare to find a basement in Texas. This home was converted from an exposed pier opening beneath the home into a complete man cave/basement for entertainment and relaxing. The floors are epoxy concrete in a natural finish. The walls are lapboard to give it a farmhouse look. In the adjacent room through the sliding barn doors are the tankless hot water heater, ice maker, refrigerator, water treatment system, and washer/dryer.

The fluid look gives the appearance of a wet finish. This is a durable, scratch resistant finish the homeowner will use for office and workshop. White and silver metallic offer a cool, yet classy feel to this very traditional home.

I completed this daylight basement design for Thayer Construction in March of 2018.
Our clients wanted a rustic looking daylight basement remodel. First, 3 walls were removed and a structural beam was added to support the building weight from the upper 2 floors. Then to achieve the rustic look our clients wanted, a coffered ceiling was designed and installed. Faux posts were also added in the space to visually offset the structurally necessary post near the bar area. A whitewash/stain was applied to the lumber to give it a rustic, weathered look. The stair railings, banisters and treads were also redone to match the rustic faux beams and posts.
A red brick facade was added to the alcove and a bright red freestanding fireplace was installed. All new lighting was installed throughout the basement including wall scones, pendants and recessed LED lighting.
We also replaced the original sliding door and installed a large set of french doors with sidelights to let even more natural light into the space. The concrete floors were stained in an earthtone color to further the desired look of the daylight basement.
We had a wonderful time working with these clients on this unique design and hope they enjoy their newly remodeled basement for many, many years to come!
