For years I planned on installing and Outdoor Kitchen and Entertainment Space in our Backyard. With a Kitchen command Center, Large fire-it and Plant collection Plantings. My Family enjoying the Firepit !

The patio roof’s shingles match those of the home. The beautiful, tongue-and-groove wood ceiling features recessed lighting and four ceiling fans. An area this large needs more than the customary one or two ceiling fans. Notice that a portion of this patio is not covered. The homeowners can enjoy sitting in the sunshine on cooler days, and they have the option to sit out under the stars at night. Most of the supporting posts are designed as columns wrapped in cedar, while two in the outdoor kitchen area are wrapped in stone to match the kitchen and fireplace stonework.

Originally this side patio was simply a barren cement patch that was cold and uninviting (see the BEFORE picture). It has a basic stone and concrete patio floor, with concrete brick walls. There was some natural bamboo behind the wall, but otherwise no plants. The house sits down in to the property, and to get to the front door you have to descend a steep set of stairs. This patio area is one of the first things people see as they descend the stairs to the front door, so we wanted to make it as inviting and cozy as possible. Plus, with all the natural tree coverage, it's a perfect place during hot days to curl up with a book or glass of wine under the shade.
Not wanting to spend money on a massive renovation, the goal was to create a cozy niche for both entertaining guests and personal relaxation, reminiscent of an India-meets-Bali exotic retreat. We created something that was organic and natural looking, in harmony with the relaxed environment of Laguna Beach.
To keep it budget friendly - and better for the environment - we also opted for recycled and pre-owned items we found on Craiglist and eBay.
I chose to first mask the barren concrete walls with an carved wood screen from India, to add depth and interest. I placed two large daybeds with heavily padded cushions in an “L” shape to entice people to curl up and sink in. Rather than opting for a regular square patio table, I found a one-of-a-kind custom oak tree slab table (a fantastic Craiglist find!) that added a beautiful organic feel. The Moroccan lamp I brought back from one of my trips to Marrakech, and it added the perfect personal touch, in addition to personal sacred objects such as an antique Kwan Yin statue (great eBay find), crystals, and shells found at the beach.
Finally, various plants were added — including both a satsuma orange tree and grapefruit tree that add lovely bursts of color when in season. And makes for a great quick snack when lounging about!

A glass wind screen is a good idea to have on your fire pit table especially if you are in a breezy area. We can custom make them any size from regular or star fire tempered glass.

Westover Landscape Design
Often, less is more. Take this landscape design composed of climbing roses, hydrangeas, and lilies surrounding a bluestone terrace. This small, suburban garden feels both expansive and intimate. Japanese forest grass softens the edge of the terrace and adds just enough of a modern look to make the garden’s owners, urban transplants, happy. “My husband and I were looking for an outdoor space that had a secret-garden feeling,” says homeowner Anne Lillis-Ruth. “We’ve had fun adding furniture, antique planters, and a stone fountain to [landscape designer] Robert Welsch’s beautiful landscape. The white and green plantings provide the perfect backdrop to my collection of colorful table linens, glassware, and china. We love our garden!”
Dean Fisher loved it, too. “The setting is so lovely and relaxed. It evokes the south of France, with its intimate scale and the integration of house and patio through the use of the vines and other plantings.”

The multi-use area under the spacious cedar pergola. Here, you will see a custom outdoor fireplace and outdoor kitchen. We topped the pergola with a polygala polycarbonate cover to keep the area dry and add heightened shade.

The owner wanted to add a covered deck that would seamlessly tie in with the existing stone patio and also complement the architecture of the house. Our solution was to add a raised deck with a low slope roof to shelter outdoor living space and grill counter. The stair to the terrace was recessed into the deck area to allow for more usable patio space. The stair is sheltered by the roof to keep the snow off the stair.

We used Deckorators black aluminum railing to add contrast to the design. The lower level of the deck makes the perfect transition into their spacious backyard. Archadeck of Nashville added integrated LED stair lighting to the project for safety and ambiance in the evening.

Archadeck - Columbus
This custom deck called for low-maintenance decking from TimberTech’s Legacy collection, in rich Mocha. Homeowners are seeing the many benefits of using low-maintenance materials these days. This TimberTech deck will resist sun fading and other sorts of damage from high traffic and impact. Unlike its wood counterparts, the deck will not require annual maintenance in sanding, staining, sealing, or painting, and it will remain beautiful for many years to come. For a more polished aesthetic, we utilized a perpendicular parting board, where regular seams would have existed. These are the sorts of custom touches you can expect when working with Archadeck of Columbus!
