Set in the garden beside a traditional Dutch Colonial home in Wellesley, Flavin conceived this boldly modern retreat, built of steel, wood and concrete. The building is designed to engage the client’s passions for gardening, entertaining and restoring vintage Vespa scooters. The Vespa repair shop and garage are on the first floor. The second floor houses a home office and veranda. On top is a roof deck with space for lounging and outdoor dining, surrounded by a vegetable garden in raised planters. The structural steel frame of the building is left exposed; and the side facing the public side is draped with a mahogany screen that creates privacy in the building and diffuses the dappled light filtered through the trees. The roof deck sits just behind the original front facade. The central chimney feature sits proudly amongst the new outdoor kitchen and bar seating. The deck is the perfect getaway space to sit amongst the trees and neighbouring rooftops.

The clients’ desire was to expand the existing 6-foot deep deck as much as possible. We were able to double the depth to 12 feet. The roof starts to drop away beyond the 12-foot mark and there is a chimney on the other side of the fence that dictated the expansion size.
We reused the existing concrete pavers, but installed contrasting darker pavers.
Re-mounted existing steel railing, but attached cedar fence to it for privacy from a nearby high-rise building.
Installed a direct gas line to the grill.
Mounted a rack on the brick wall with an outlet below for a future TV installation

Lanai Doors
A great alternative to sliding glass doors! Lanai Doors manufactures folding glass doors that are custom made to your liking. As seen here, a single door can open to the outside instead of folding open the entire glass door!

This beach home was originally built in 1936. It's a great property, just steps from the sand, but it needed a major overhaul from the foundation to a new copper roof. Inside, we designed and created an open concept living, kitchen and dining area, perfect for hosting or lounging. The result? A home remodel that surpassed the homeowner's dreams.
Outside, adding a custom shower and quality materials like Trex decking added function and style to the exterior. And with panoramic views like these, you want to spend as much time outdoors as possible!
