what do I put here instead of the desk?

I have a small great room and can't seem to figure out the space beside the kitchen and the living room. Workable space is 10'L & 6'w. There's 59" between the penninsula & the curtain. The EAT sign & curtain are staying. The desk, 47"w, 29"h, 32"d, is going away. I tried a 72" bookcase-but neither the desk or bookcase look right. What should I put here? I need storage or an elevated place where the cats can feed without climbing on the kitchen counter (yuck). Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Commentaires (84)bonjour, ils sont très bien les rideaux que vous avez trouvé, le bleu est bien clair et dans les tons pastels que nous utilisions beaucoup en Scandinavie. Le bleu assortie pour le coussin est parfait. Si vous souhaitez vous rapprocher du style Scandinave il faut choisir entre rideaux et voilage comme on ne mets jamais le deux, beaucoup trop lourd pour nous intérieurs ou on essaye toujours garder une luminosité maximale. En Tunisie vous avez le problème contraire donc il faudra s'adapter et trouver une équilibre entre le style Scandinave et vous besoins. Si vous souhaitez avoir une voilage je conseillerai vivement un blanc uni, sans rayure! votre tableau bleu et jaune sera très bien avec l'ensemble, il est très beau!... Commentaires (36)Microwave next to the table would solve the bad looks and the height issue. Normally upper cabinets can be about 48cm above countertop, but since it looks better to have them on the same height as the built-in hood, you'll need 60cm. But if you're 1.60m you could consider a free hanging hood and some upper cabinets next to it, otherwise all uppers would be too high for you and you'd only use the lower shelf. And even better: Buy an oven with microwave function! (already posted that I think) Oven with microwave is different than microwave with grill. I'm not trying to criticize, the space seems new, with quality materials and well-lit, but have you also noticed the other big white walls? and ceiling? Why just the wall with the mirror? You've got a majority of white, a good dose of black, some chrome / stainless steel details and an uninterrupted shiny pale wood floor. It's relatively astonishing that you have a white door and only one white window, but the other window is black? Everything is relativement anonymous, nice, but nothing too ground-breaking. Is this a rental or your own home? Are you sure that just some art on that one wall will make it cozy and beautiful? Have you thought about any window treatments? Store venetien? Rideaux? Store bateaux? Any type of rug under the dining table? A rug called Bolon, made of woven vinyl fibers, easily cleaned ant anti-allergy. Is the mirror not on the axis of the table on purpose? And why a dark wood? It adds to the "window types", a black one, a white one and the wooden mirror one... Some more information would be helpful. good luck, Lynn... Voir plusabbyjean

il y a 9 ansMy first thought was that nothing was needed to fill the space, but then I saw that you're looking for a cat feeding station, and I thought of these ideas. You could turn a dresser or hutch into a feeding and elevated sleeping station for the kitties. Or you could hack a bookshelf in a similar way, while adding some climbing space for them.
I've also seen open floating shelves attached directly to the wall at intervals that allow kitties to climb. That could be a fun space for the cats, but you'd want to keep them closer to the window to discourage climbing onto the counters (and instead looking out at the birds!).

Place the fur kids bowls on the floor below the space and put a cool cat print, vertical panorama if you will, there. Hints of red to accent the EAT sign and hints of blue to tie in the curtains. I just made this for you as an example...:) Best of Luck!

il y a 8 ansDernière modification :il y a 8 ansI would add a tall white or reclaimed wood secretary cabinet. This will allow you to have dual functions with this cabinet. 1. You can still have an office to work. 2. You will have plenty of storage. 3. You can use one of your bar stools as your seat and when you are not using the computer you can close it up and hide the clutter and place the bar stool back under the counter top. Also keep in mind you can find a secretary cabinet with closed door storage above no glass. Hope this helps you .
