Need help for my living room

I'm moving into a new flat in central London. It is a beautiful victorian flat and need to get the living room redone. I will leave the cream carpet for now and want to first start paint the wall and decorate the room from scratch (sofas, furniture, etc.)
I was thinking of using the "Blue Hague" from Farrow and Ball to pain the central wall where the fire place is and use the "Wimborne white" to paint the rest of the room.
Also, want to put a desk on the right side of the fire place that will feet the style with a moderne touch. Was thinking as well of using a big rectangular silver mirror above the fire place.
Any ideas are welcome ..! Thanks.

What a great room and it is lovely to see an original, proper fireplace in good condition. Hague Blue is gorgeous but it is really dark. If you are going to do it, do the whole room, not just one wall. Commit to the dark and cosy! It'll really make the windows, cornicing and fireplace stand out.

A desk over on the right is a good use of that space under the shelves and a really big mirror over the fireplace is great, too. And whatever you decide to do, paint the shelves and the radiator the same colour as the wall so they blend in. It really makes the items on the shelves stand out. Enjoy!

What a fantastic looking room! The windows are superb. I personally would wallpaper just the chimney breast section with a feature period wallpaper, it's a small section so something really nice from Cole and son or Osborne and little would look really good for not much money. Then the rest of the room in a muted light paint shade, again sticking with a period pallette.

Good evening, please make a selection of what can remain or not, the wooden floors seems to be ok already, make a selection of tendency you like, modern, classic, chic or completely different. Colors selection needed. We see only one room please add more details.

bonjour, ils sont très bien les rideaux que vous avez trouvé, le bleu est bien clair et dans les tons pastels que nous utilisions beaucoup en Scandinavie. Le bleu assortie pour le coussin est parfait. Si vous souhaitez vous rapprocher du style Scandinave il faut choisir entre rideaux et voilage comme on ne mets jamais le deux, beaucoup trop lourd pour nous intérieurs ou on essaye toujours garder une luminosité maximale. En Tunisie vous avez le problème contraire donc il faudra s'adapter et trouver une équilibre entre le style Scandinave et vous besoins. Si vous souhaitez avoir une voilage je conseillerai vivement un blanc uni, sans rayure! votre tableau bleu et jaune sera très bien avec l'ensemble, il est très beau!

I have very similar rooms in my house, with large rectangular mirrors above the fireplaces. I have experimented with a round mirrors and they look better, much more modern. Papering the chimney breasts works brilliantly, I think this works better than painting as Victorian houses take pattern extremely well and can look a little flat with just paint. Good luck.

All the information that you have been given so far, is great, but before you decide on colour for the room, make sure you know which way the room faces. If it is north facing, blue would make the room feel very cold.

As much as it may be easier to paint first. I'd suggest buying (or at least choosing) all your furniture, artwork etc first as it's much easier to find paint to complement sofas etc rather than the other way round. Silver and gold are cool and warm re the mirror so again a background colour to complement what you choose rather than clash (as opposed to contrast).

I would love to offer you advice and could put together a mood board for you if you are interested Adeline- have a look at my website www.imperfectinteriors.co.uk I really wouldn't recommend putting wallpaper on the chimney breast as it will make the room feel much smaller, particularly if you put a mirror on top of it too. It would look much more grown up and sophisticated to paint the walls, skirting, shelves and door all in the same colour, and then your attention will be drawn to the beautiful accessories and furniture that you choose instead. I have a two very similar rooms to this. In the living room I painted the coving, windows, door and skirts in Railings by farrow and ball (it's a very dark blue black). It looks bloody fabulous and because of the height and scale of the room it can really carry it off and looks very grand. I then wallpapered the entire room in the scion range by harlequin. Be bold, rooms like this can really take it. The bedroom which is identical I painted completely in RAilings (walls, coving, skirts, doors etc) and it looks awesome and every single person that sees it loves it although 99% of people wouldn't be brave enough to do it as it's very dark. Google abigail AHern as she loves using dark paint throughout her interiors and it really works, esp if you have a period property . I personally stay away from feature walls as I think they've had their day and look a bit 'changing rooms' circa 2002.... I've also put white wooden Venetian blinds (got them made to measure from ebay as were a lot cheaper) which also lifts both rooms. I also put a wood burner in the fireplace in the living room and have crucial trading dark grey carpets throughout. Good luck!

Hi Adeline, cast iron radiators would look fab in your living room if your budget can stretch to replacing the radiators. We offer a range of styles in a range of finishes including Farrow & Ball Hague Blue and anthracite, which would go nicely with your fireplace. You could go with something long and low under the window with a smart traditional thermostatic valve.
