Cabinet doors no longer made, need a replacement

We want to adding a new cabinet to our kitchen in an area that previously had a window (into a carport - very ugly). Unfortunately, the cabinet fronts we have in the rest of the kitchen are no longer made. The other cabinets are American Woodmark Charlottesville cabinets, bought at Home Depot in 2013. I won't be able to handle non-matching or almost-matching cabinets (the new ones will go between some existing) and I'm set on adding the cabinets. Therefore, the only two options I see are replacing all our cabinet fronts or finding an exact equivalent from a different manufacturer.

Am I missing any options?

They are solid wood and I am fine with the style, so I also don't want to replace them if I don't have to. That said, they are cabinets from 2013 (not historic or anything), so I wouldn't be devastated to get new cabinet fronts if it made the most financial sense.

Does anyone know of any exact matches to the Charlottesville cabinets? Or whether getting some custom cabinetry would work?

Can you find a local carpenter who might be able to copy them?

Have them copied or use a glass front cabinet door.

Microwave next to the table would solve the bad looks and the height issue. Normally upper cabinets can be about 48cm above countertop, but since it looks better to have them on the same height as the built-in hood, you'll need 60cm. But if you're 1.60m you could consider a free hanging hood and some upper cabinets next to it, otherwise all uppers would be too high for you and you'd only use the lower shelf. And even better: Buy an oven with microwave function! (already posted that I think) Oven with microwave is different than microwave with grill. I even have a 12 year old tiny Panasonic combi that makes perfect bread and pizza!

Hello Velvet Ninja You seem concerned with that one wall. I'm not trying to criticize, the space seems new, with quality materials and well-lit, but have you also noticed the other big white walls? and ceiling? Why just the wall with the mirror? You've got a majority of white, a good dose of black, some chrome / stainless steel details and an uninterrupted shiny pale wood floor. It's relatively astonishing that you have a white door and only one white window, but the other window is black? Everything is relativement anonymous, nice, but nothing too ground-breaking. Is this a rental or your own home? Are you sure that just some art on that one wall will make it cozy and beautiful? Have you thought about any window treatments? Store venetien? Rideaux? Store bateaux? Any type of rug under the dining table? A rug called Bolon, made of woven vinyl fibers, easily cleaned ant anti-allergy. Is the mirror not on the axis of the table on purpose? And why a dark wood? It adds to the "window types", a black one, a white one and the wooden mirror one... Some more information would be helpful. good luck, Lynn

Hello, I suggest that you replace the countertop, especially if you don't appreciate the former marble one. I think it would be sturdier if you move the dishwasher closer to the sink and the small cabinet (which is presently in between the sink and the dishwasher) to the left of the dishwasher, Your new counter will be more solid. The cabinets are Dark petrol blue? Your photos are relative close-ups, a larger view would be more helpful if you wish some suggestions, a budget, as well. There is a big difference in price from the low end to the high end choices. good luck, Lynn

Yes, I suppose I could have them copied. I have never done that before. Is the cost relatively reasonable?

Unless you also want countertop space there, instead of trying to match the existing cabinets, you could very deliberately make it entirely different and even finish/paint it differently ... perhaps paint it the same (?the white ?) color as your window and door trim. You could create a floor-to-top-of-cabinet pantry with bi-fold closet doors.

A custom cabinet maker can replicate your door style. It will be expensive compared to what you ordered before, but certainly cheaper than replacing all of your door and drawer fronts. Call one up and get an estimate. Prices vary widely across the country.

If you want upper and lower cabinets and a countertop, glass front doors and/or louvered doors might be worth considering.

With the original cabinets painted, using entirely different style doors painted the same color would work.

Can you add a picture from further back to include where the new cabinet will be? I was also going to suggest not trying to match and use it as an opportunity to do something fun.

Since you feel you would need an exact copy I too immediately thought--glass front. Because there was a window there before it seems even more logical. Maybe open shelving?

See if this company has the profiles to make up your doors. You will need someone that can add the basic cabinet case and measure for the doors.

Changing some doors to have glass, plus the new one, will look deliberate. Getting the color of the new door to match EXACTLY will be challenging because your old doors have normal wear and tear and dirt (not implying your housekeeping skills are lacking) and will be difficult to replicate. Plus, glass fronted doors eliminate the need for complex mill work to replicate your door style.

Having a couple custom doors made would certainly be less expensive that replacing all the doors and current hardware in my opinion.

I would add a picture but the space isn't completed yet. Basically, we will have one wall where we can put cabinets. We have two existing floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinets that we'll move to that wall. In between them is where I want the new cabinets - uppers and lowers. So I think doing something deliberately different or even a different color would look strange with the large pantries right next to it. I think glass on the uppers could look really cool, actually. It's the bottom cabinets I am concerned about. We are only talking about 48" or so worth of cabinet span.

We're opening up a wall between the kitchen and the living room. The wall currently has the pantry cabinets on it, so that's why we're just moving them because they're still fine, we just want the space. And removing the window from the other wall gets rid of a view of my car and also gives us lots of storage options.

Thanks for all the advice! So many options! I do think getting a copy is going to be the best bet.

I think a bank of drawers (slab-front) & glass doors on simple Shaker uppers would look the best.

A cabinet maker could copy your profile, but it might be expensive.

Drawer banks for bases are much more functional than doors. Then glass or mirrored doors above. American Woodmark should be able to finish using the same color.

Unfortunately, the space is not full counter depth, so it is too shallow for drawers. But I agree, that would be an awesome option! The pantry cupboards are only 12 " deep.

When we moved into our house, two of the cabinet doors were broken beyond repair. We had them made by a custom cabinet maker for around $300.00 if I recall. Totally worth it! They were solid cherry and came out perfect. We had them for about 8 years before we redid our kitchen with zero issues.

Maybe try eBay? Or a build reuse site? Maybe someone remodeled and you can pick up the old door style.
