A family tradition. Brown has worked as a contractor for more than four decades. “It’s all I’ve ever done, really,” he says. “I grew up surrounded by a family that was in construction, and they had a reputation for great skill and customer service. I’ve worked to maintain that. From roofing to kitchens, baths and entire homes, we’ve done it all, and I always work to keep a great team of people around me.”
A life-changing job. “We care about our homeowners, and we want to make a positive difference in the quality of their lives today, as well as in the future,” Brown says. “I love that we have the opportunity to change people’s lives for the better. We get to do a lot of really cool things for people.”

1. Design for Your Lifestyle
Consider your needs and preferences. “Do you need more space? Where do you eat breakfast? Do you love to cook? What would make your life easier?” Brown says. “Tailor your design based on your needs, and you’ll end up with a beautiful and functional space that you’ll love for years to come.”
The owners of the Westerville home seen here wanted to update their master bathroom. “The room included a tub, a small shower and a toilet room, and didn’t make optimal space of the walk-in closet adjacent to it,” Brown says. “The homeowners wanted full-height walls and additional storage space in their closet. We raised the clipped ceiling over the shower by lifting the roof, so they had a larger space, with a relocated — much bigger! — closet.”

2. Let the Sun In
Natural light makes a huge difference in any space, Brown says: “Open up a space to allow as much light in as possible, even if you forgo cabinet space on walls to install more windows. You’ll make up for the storage space somewhere else. Natural light lifts moods and makes rooms seem even more spacious.”
A renovation of the Clintonville kitchen seen here included removing cabinets on one exterior wall to install windows across the space. “The room looks more spacious with natural light flooding in, and the windows add a strong feel,” Brown says.

3. Think Big and Small
While you need to consider how you’ll live in the house and how each space will meet your needs, also consider how the house fits into its space, Brown says. “Your home should be thought of in a micro and a macro sense to ensure you’re taking advantage of the land from all angles.”
The home in Columbus seen here was renovated to lift it out of a hill and to build it up a story and a half to provide views of the property. “Every home is different, but especially when you have beautiful surroundings, you’ll want to see those every day,” Brown says. “Take advantage of that!”
