Dig Your Garden Landscape DesignA new stairway and pathway alongside the outdoor dining area is constructed with Sonoma fieldstone, Full Color Bluestone and small Mexican pebbles. The grasses, Pennisetum 'Karly Rose' (Oriental fountain grass), and low growing Nepeta (Catmint) soften the hardscape edges nicely. The removal of the dense and overgrown shrubs and trees provide more outdoor space for dining and entertaining, less maintenance. And now with site-appropriate plants and no lawn, a lower water bill for the homeowners, while offering a contemporary landscape transformation. We chose a fun oval interior space filled with gravel, and planted the surrounding beds with mostly mediterranean style plants and perennials for year-round color.
The metal garden box in the foreground is filled with annual wildflower seeds which the homeowner casually tosses in twice a year...this colorful garden is constantly filled with birds, butterflies, and bees!

We began this project with the idea of making a friendly entryway and social area under the Mulberry tree which provides much needed shade in this hot, mountainous area. The 'red fescue' meadow grass has a cooling effect and the agaves reduce the need for excess water and maintenance.
The backyard has a covered dining area with a corner lounge and fireplace. The large barbecue offers a cantilevered counter for entertaining. The waterfall into the pool is surrounded with bamboo and plantings that emulate the hillside beyond the property. The permeable paving and mix of Vitex and Olive trees provide shade for smaller seating areas to enjoy the variety of succulents throughout the garden
Maraya Interior DesignWalls with thick plaster arches and simple tile designs feel very natural and earthy in the warm Southern California sun. Terra cotta floor tiles are stained to mimic very old tile inside and outside in the Spanish courtyard shaded by a 'new' old olive tree. The outdoor plaster and brick fireplace has touches of antique Indian and Moroccan items. An outdoor garden shower graces the exterior of the master bath with freestanding white tub- while taking advantage of the warm Ojai summers. The open kitchen design includes all natural stone counters of white marble, a large range with a plaster range hood and custom hand painted tile on the back splash. Wood burning fireplaces with iron doors, great rooms with hand scraped wide walnut planks in this delightful stay cool home. Stained wood beams, trusses and planked ceilings along with custom creative wood doors with Spanish and Indian accents throughout this home gives a distinctive California Exotic feel.
