Manica WalkerI wanted a craft studio/She-shed that had a New York studio vibe with the look of exposed brings and modern touches. Love the color of apple green so i introduced it onto the two part space for some color. I didn't want to overwhelm the spaces with the bright color, so I toned it down with some smoke gray, warm beiges, and white. I created a work table out of plywood and 2 9-cube storage units. The floors are not really wood, but a awesome foam mat that resembles wood but feels so much better on the feet. I wanted to cover the bottom of my work bench along the wall, so I purchased 1 decorative paneling and had it cut in half. I added hinges and will be adding knocks for a great inexpensive cabinet look. Photos by: Nica Walker

JLC ArchitectureThough it could be viewed as a purely aesthetic endeavor, the scope of this project actually deals with three distinct yet related issues. First, a complete update of exterior materials gave the existing residence a clean, fresh look. Second, ongoing maintenance of the exterior is minimized by replacing the aging wood with cement panel board and battens, smooth faced stucco and stone veneer. Lastly, the house is given a clear point of entry from the street with the addition of a trellis and new front door. The clean lines of a new cable railing and glass-paneled garage door complete the package.

Level Design BuildThis backyard garden studio with a modern design provides a comfortable and stylish retreat for a home office, art studio, cottage bunkie or for backyard entertaining. The layout features two built in work stations, and a built-in sofa bench that can be used for reading, watching televisions or an afternoon nap. A second story loft provides space for storage, a kid's play area or a separate space for lounging. With a footprint just over 100 square feet, this studio makes efficient use of space while minimizing the footprint of the backyard and may be constructed without a permit in many jurisdictions (check your local building code).
